This monopole vineyard spans over seven hectares of limestone hillside, accounting for almost half the domaine’s holdings. However in 2024 it made just 9 barrels compared to its usual hundred or so. It must have been a heartbreaking vineyard to pick. The wine, however, betrays none of this catastrophe in the glass. It is precise and defined: a quite delicious Nuits-Saint-Georges.

The 2024 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Forêts Saint Georges 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet with vivacious red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit that leans towards Vosne in style, perhaps just without the violet component. I appreciate the transparency here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, wonderful balance and silky smooth with a very cohesive and tender finish without any shortfall in flavour. This is one wine which I think demonstrates what the 2024 vintage was able to do rather than what it could not.
