2023 Beaune 1er Cru Tuvilains, Marchand-Tawse (Vignes de la Famille Tawse)

2023 Beaune 1er Cru Tuvilains, Marchand-Tawse (Vignes de la Famille Tawse)

Tuvilains is a lovely vineyard on the Pommard side of the town. In 2023 the wine is tightly wound, with grippy, compact tannins, and a fresh cherry bite. It will need some time to come around in bottle but will reward the patient.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Beaune Tuvilains 1er Cru is completely destemmed, though it has a hint of spice on the nose. Like the Clos du Roi, this lacks a little cohesion and depth. The palate is better than the Clos du Roi, with more concentration, cracked black pepper notes and fine tannins without a great deal of grip on the finish. There is a long aftertaste. Fine.

Mid ruby, raspberry fruit, clearly ripe, which gives a lusher feel to the palate but slightly rougher tannins for some reason. The fruit is attractive though I can feel the sunshine at the finish. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Nov 2024.
