2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les 4 Climats, Gilbert et Christine Felettig

2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les 4 Climats, Gilbert et Christine Felettig

From 4 different plots, namely Aux Combettes and Les Combottes, Chatelots, Chabiots this incorporates both estate and purchased fruit. The average vine age of 50 years gives real intensity and density to the red berry fruit with complexity from a portion of whole bunch fermentation giving a sense of salinity too. This is a very poised Chambolle that finds a delicate balance between the immediate charm of fleshy cherry fruit and well-defined aromatics of spice and dried flowers.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru showed a little less reduction on the nose. It has attractive cranberry and tayberry scents and the 40% whole bunch imparts a subtle pepperiness. The delineation is fine. The palate is medium-bodied with finely interwoven tannins. It is very poised, with heightened mineralité here and a persistent finish that lingers. Quite classically styled, this is a Chambolle with oodles of panache.

30% whole bunches. A fine fresh mid purple. The bouquet is bursting with lively fruit, raspberry with a hint of strawberry. The Charmes has a firmer structure, from old vines that didn’t yield above 30 hl/ha. A more muscular style of Charmes, with slightly more tannins. Drink from 2020-2037. Tasted Dec 2024.
