2023 Savigny-Lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières, Marchand-Tawse (Vignes de la Famille Tawse)

2023 Savigny-Lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières, Marchand-Tawse (Vignes de la Famille Tawse)

This really works in 2023. The fully destemmed fruit has been given 25% new oak, and the balance is just right. It is sweetly scented, with pliant tannins and a pretty and delicate finish. Winemaker Mark Fincham says this is the best wine in the cellar and one of his favourites of the vintage.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru is all destemmed this year. It has a pretty, lightly spiced bouquet with brambly red fruit notes and touches of bay leaf developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and cohesive with a pleasant sapidity on the entry. It has moderate depth and fine structure on the finish that will be very tempting in its youth. This is much better than the 2022.

Destemmed, 20% new wood, now racked to tank. A lovely fresh crimson colour. Mixed red berries, including strawberry, this is unforced and very pleasing. Tannins, lighter acidity, but the fruit wins through. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Nov 2024.
