2023 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes, Domaine Méo-Camuzet

Cellar Circle Exclusive

This vineyard lies just below La Tâche towards the centre of the village and the domaine owns around 2 hectares in total. This opens with spiced notes of nutmeg and hoisin with a seamless layer of fresh black cherry fruit, pomegranate and dried wild herbs. There is a real density here yet a freshness and vibrancy that is so full of charm.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru comes from two hectares split over two parcels (one called "Jean Tardy" after its former métayer). This has an exuberant bouquet of vivacious dark cherries, raspberry coulis and crushed stone scents, with wonderful delineation throughout. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, lightly spiced black fruit and hints of marmalade. This is quite persistent and spicy on the finish with a little aftertaste of clove. Perhaps it lacks the grace and sophistication of the best cuvées, but it will yield 12 to 15 years of drinking pleasure.

From Les Barreaux and Aux Communes. A noble ruby purple. The bouquet expresses itself really well, ripe dark red fruit, yet the palate shows commendable grip. There is depth and for the vintage, greater concentration than most, living alongside its oak without difficulty. A very good example. Drink from 2031-2036. Tasted Nov 2024.
