Les Hâtes sits in the middle of the village, surrounded by Premiers Crus on well-draining red-tinged soil. It is an early-ripening terroir that makes for a floral, ethereal style of Pinot with lovely proportions. David uses around 10% whole bunches and aims to focus on the floral character as a natural expression of the site which David sees emerge every year. A compelling introduction to Santenay with bright, red berry fruits and a lick of blood orange on the juicy finsh.
The 2023 Santenay Les Hâtes contains 10-15% whole clusters. It has a lovely bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, crushed stone and touches of orange rind with impressive delineation. The palate is well balanced with a smooth entry. Bright red berry fruit mixes with orange rind, turning slightly powdery on the finish. Enjoy this over the next decade.
A darker and deeper colour. A small amount of whole bunch adds to the floral character typical of this vineyard, peonies as much as roses. Fine fruit right across the palate with a fresher mineral finish, and greater persistence. Succulent and delicious. Drink from 2027-2030. Tasted Nov 2024.
