2023 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode, Domaine Bruno Clair

2023 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode, Domaine Bruno Clair

This precious site was Bruno’s father’s favourite, and is now his son Arthur’s favourite too. It’s planted with the oldest vines of the domaine, which date back to 1902. Its east-facing amphitheatre-like form catches the sun’s rays, and the wine it produces is sappy, concentrated and complexly textured. There’s a clear density from the old vine fruit, and the energy of the vintage. In 2023, the nose has concentrated black cherries and wild strawberry and on the palate there is fine-grained, fluid tannins and a mineral finish. It’s sumptuous, spiced, and poised.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Morey Saint-Denis En la Rue Vergy has a very classy bouquet with wonderful definition and a sense of control as it unfurls with blackberry, briar and light blood orange scents. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, fleshy tannins. There is a slightly candied quality to this Morey-Saint-Denis and a touch menthol on the finish. Real vibrancy here.

Medium crimson red. The nose is more backward than Jarrons. On the palate, the fruit is on the cusp of red and black, with firmer tannins, effectively just a little more of everything but therefore needing longer elevage. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Nov 2024.
