This is a supreme example of Clos de Vougeot. Charles has two excellent parcels, one of which is just next to the château in the sweet spot of the Clos. It shows density without heaviness, intensity without extraction.

The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a slight richer bouquet than the domaine's other cuvées. It has fine delineation and poise, with violet and iris flower notes infusing the dark cherry fruit tones. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, saturated tannins. It's silky smooth but the acidity keeps this on its poise. This is open with hints of blood orange toward the finish. This exudes class.
An intense purple, with fair nobility on the nose. Red and black fruits mixed, with a grand cru depth to the palate even if less seductive in youth than a Suchots or Malconsorts. However layers play out very well in the mouth with some little dark blueberries and bilberries right at the back. An excellent fruit acid balance without aggressive tannins. Drink from 2033-2040.
