Ruchottes is a fairly small Grand Cru, just 3.3 hectares in total. The Mugneret-Gibourg parcel is in Ruchottes du Bas, and makes a beautiful wine, with chewy density and a luxurious, voluptuous finish. This is rightly regarded as a high-point in the Mugneret-Gibourg cellar.

The 2023 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru has the highest alcohol of this vintage at 14.5% and uses 35% whole bunch. For the first time, the Mugneret family managed the vines instead of someone outside the Domaine. It has a focused and delineated bouquet, as hints of bell pepper from the stems infuse the dark berry fruit and mingle with cola and brown spice. The palate is medium-bodied with a powerful opening, acidity to counterbalance the richness and real weight on the back end—albeit without the complexity of the previous vintage. Very fine.
A fine deep purple. Glycerol rich legs. 22% whole bunch vinification, barely showing. This is richer than usual, and indeed is the ripest wine in the cellar, slightly losing some of the dainty lattice-work in favour of more muscle, with a firmer finish. There is no real feeling of heat though and the deep red cherry fruit remains a treat. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2024.
