2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru, Jean Grivot

2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru, Jean Grivot

This Grivot parcel is 0.8 hectares in size with vines that are around 85-90 years old. After the 2024 vintage a third of this plot is being replanted. The 2023 wine is suave and intense, with an opulent freshness. Spiced notes of white pepper and incense emerge from the glass with a seamless and very complete tannin feel. There is a charm and focus here that makes this unmissable this year.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a crisp and mineral bouquet, with blackcurrant, wild strawberry fruit and a touch of chalk dust developing in the glass. This has superb delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins. It's a tensile Echézeaux, surfeit with mineralité, leading to a cohesive and persistent finish that exudes class. This is one of the best wines you will find from the Grand Cru.

(95—97)/100

One of the lighter red crimson colours, a red fruit nose, some strawberry, though not saline in the mouth until the very end, plenty of fruit filling the mouth, perhaps less delicacy and detail. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2024.
