Half of En Orveaux is included within Echezeaux Grand Cru. This comes from the upper half of the lieu-dit as the slope rises up, which is classified as Premier Cru. The views from here are spectacular. It produces a wine with the intense freshness of crushed red berries. A layered and complex palate will reward the patient.

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée En Orveaux 1er Cru is very fragrant on the nose, showing a little more intensity than the Aux Reignots, with superbly delineated dark berry fruit, forest floor and light truffle scents. The palate is medium-bodied with quite an assertive entry, and the tannins exert fine grip. This is very well balanced with excellent weight on the mid-palate, but there is a sense of restraint on the finish. Excellent.
Though the colour is no deeper, here the fruit wins out entirely over the oak. There is significant density here without losing the graceful style of the Cathiard 2023s. A darker fruit, perhaps, but entirely balanced with the structure. Drink from 2032-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.
