2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras, Ghislaine Barthod

2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras, Ghislaine Barthod

Cellar Circle Exclusive

This wine’s power and energy dominate when young, and the promise of its future are clear to see when tasting from barrel. This is a gorgeous Cras from Ghislaine, with grand cru texture through and through. Satin-like tannins belie the power beneath the surface here. So expressive even at this early stage with aromas of rose, red cherry and wet rocks, this is a wine with enormous potential.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru is endowed with the most fruit concentration amongst the domaine's Premier Crus. Mulberry, raspberry, damp earth and dark chocolate hints develop in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, with an assertive grip on the entry. The fine tannins here give this Les Cras wonderful symmetry and poise. It's nimble, complete and delicious toward the saline finish. This Chambolle is a cut above.

Clément notes that their holding has very different soils to Christophe Roumier’s. He has more red soil in the north, whereas it is white marl where they are. They face south-south-east, Christophe more east-south-east. The Barthod 2023 Chambolle Cras has a full fresh purple colour, crisp berry fruit on the nose, which opens out very well on the palate. Generous, yet with controlled precision of dark berry fruit. Very promising. Drink from 2032-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.
