Alix’s Echézeaux is a blend of three plots across the grand cru. It has a formidable intensity, with kirsch, menthol, dark spice, and black tea all vying for attention. It shows magnificent structure in its tannins.
The Millot Echezeaux is predominantly from Echezeaux du Dessus (1949 and 1980 plantings), along with Les Poulaillères and Clos St-Denis. Lovely red crimson colour. Florally detailed, plus a little oak as well. 20% whole bunch just adds a little touch of liveliness. The oak will need to quieten down which it will. The 2022 Jean-Marc Millot is particularly persistent, and yet again a really fine grain of tannins Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted: November 2023.
Production consists of 2.5 barrels of destemmed fruit, and one in whole bunches. Mid crimson purple. The fruit shows a weight on the nose and the palate is superb, with a little bramble, definitely a floral aspect and a wealth of succulent raspberry and strawberry fruit, leading to a gorgeous finish.
