Pierre has just 0.4 hectares in Charmes-Chambertin, which is divided into five separate parcels, two of which are on the border with Griotte-Chambertin, on more stony soils. The wine is always tightly coiled, with some noble austerity in its youth.
A deep and vibrant ruby purple. This also has the seductive quality one wants but definitely is more precise, more subtle. There is a special backbone to this wine which makes it complete rather than just superficially attractive. This Charmes-Chambertin has a definite mineral finish. Drink from 2031-2040. The 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a superb bouquet of perfumed iris and violet flowers with delineated red berry fruit. This blossoms in the glass. The medium-bodied palate has a sensual opening, quite plush red berry fruit and fine detail. It is quite peppery in style with a long, tender finish. Very precise - like a Swiss watch.
