2022 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes, Marchand-Tawse

2022 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes, Marchand-Tawse

This cuvée is the main reason we started buying the wines from Marchand-Tawse. It is a winner every year. A generous, but well-judged 60% whole-bunch gives it a transparent purity, and the wine displays a tender and delicious blackcurrant fruit pastel core. The vineyard sits just below Clos St-Denis, and next to Faconnières, in the heart of the village. We always lament that it is made in such tiny quantities.

Tasting notes

The 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru contains 60% whole bunches and has a more expressive bouquet than the Clos des Ormes: bright red brambly fruit, forest floor and a touch of morels. I like the vitality here. The palate is medium-bodied with good density and grip; there is plenty of weight here with blackberry, wild strawberry and white pepper and clove towards the finish. Excellent.

60% whole bunch vinification, no new wood. An even crimson colour. While retaining its earthy style, the fruit is fuller and altogether classier than Clos des Ormes. Strawberry and raspberry, middleweight and with fair length. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted: December 2023.
