2022 Beaune 1er Cru Tuvilains, Marchand-Tawse (Vignes de la Famille Tawse)

2022 Beaune 1er Cru Tuvilains, Marchand-Tawse (Vignes de la Famille Tawse)

Tuvilains is a lovely vineyard on the Pommard side of the town. In 2022 the wine is tightly wound, with grippy, compact tannins, and a fresh cherry bite. It will need some time to come around in bottle.

Tasting notes

The 2022 Beaune Tuvilains 1er Cru, incorporating 20% stems, is more expressive and shows greater clarity than the Clos du Roi at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with chiseled tannins, very fresh and almost chalky textured, impressive mineralité with a long tail on the finish. There's a sense of classicism here that is very appealing.

20% whole bunch vinification, 35% new wood. A rich dense purple. Significant density, with a weight of almost tarry dense fruit, there is a great deal happening in the middle of the palate and it continues all the way through. An excellent result from this terroir. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted: December 2023.
