2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet

2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet

The clay soils of this well-placed parcel produce a wine of depth and roundness. Like the Etelois, there is some black fruit mingled in with the red, and an expressive, aromatic depth. The tannins provide a little more grip than the village wines, and will demand a few more years in the cellar.

Tasting notes

A little more clay in the soil here. Mid red to crimson. Some red berries and some spice on the nose. The fruit on the palate is weightier than Clos Prieur, cherry and strawberry together, though not necessarily finer. There is an attractive medium to full fruit, then drier tannins to finish. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted: December 2023.

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru has the most winsome of Rossignol-Trapet's aromatics amongst their Premier Cru, with perfumed red cherries and wild strawberry fruit, very pure and demonstrating the most ripeness. The medium-bodied palate has fine-boned tannins. It’s a refined, elegant Gevrey with clove and white pepper sprinkled over the finish. Well worth seeking out.
