2022 Fixin 1er Cru Arvelets, Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet

2022 Fixin 1er Cru Arvelets, Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet

Fixin doesn’t have any grand crus, but in Amélie’s eyes, this is the greatest site in the village. It has very shallow soils, and the vines, now aged 30-80 years old, dig deep. 50% whole-bunch brings a floral, spiced fruit. Defined, characterful, and the work of a winemaker at the top of her game.

Tasting notes

50% whole bunch vinification. Glowing purple. The fruit smells as if it was picked on the perfect day. A grace and density with succulent raspberry strawberry fruit, perfect structure behind. Effortless, fine, structured but above all the fruit. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted: November 2023. 5 stars.

The 2022 Fixin Les Arvelets 1er Cru contains 50% stems, predicating a vibrant nose with cracked black pepper and pencil box aromas complementing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins. I might have just pulled back a little on the stem addition as they feel a bit pronounced on the finish, but they will surely be assimilated with bottle age. One for the more patient among you.
