2022 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot Rouge, Domaine de l'Arlot

2022 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot Rouge, Domaine de l'Arlot

This is the historic flagship monopole of the domaine, and lies just outside the cellar door. Its distinctive amphitheatre shape is planted with some very old vines, meaning production is low, even in more plentiful years. The wine is aromatically complex, gourmand and delicate at the same time, with a spiced, rose-petal character drawing you in. Ethereal.

Tasting notes

The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos de l'Arlot 1er Cru also showed a little reduction on the nose, with brambly red berry fruit and wild hedgerow, touches of loam emerging with time. The oak, 40% new, is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied, with plenty of black plum and raspberry fruit on the entry. Lots of sucrosity here, gentle grip, hints of allspice and even a dab of licorice towards the finish. It's quite a stocky Clos de l'Arlot at the moment, yet very well-balanced, so give this three to five years in bottle.

A mid crimson colour, slightly deeper than Mont des Oiseaux. Rather more pure red fruit on the bouquet. Fine tension, medium plus bodied, more strawberry than raspberry, with an even fruit through to the finish, where the fine tannins and light acidity are in balance. Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted: October 2023.
