These vines were planted in 1965 and 1972. Aux Murgers is one of the warmer, and therefore earlier ripening sites in Nuits, and this 2022 is silky and seductive.

The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Murgers 1er Cru comes from a vineyard most affected by the frost the previous vintage, so this year, there were 12 barrels instead of four. Matured in 60% new oak, the pretty bouquet has brambly red fruit, forest floor and light crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a little more weight than the preceding Vosne Chaumes. There’s gentle grip with a dash of black pepper on the finish. Drink over the next 15 to 20 years.
The ruby side of purple. The bouquet is between fresh plums and dark raspberries. The fruit expands beautifully on the palate, much more together than Les Chaumes, nicely integrated with the clearly present oak, and finishing with fine tannins and not too much acidity. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted: December 2023.
