2022 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru, Marchand-Tawse (Vignes de la Famille Tawse)

Mark Fincham isn’t one to mince his words, so when he says this is the best Mazoyères he’s made at Tawse, it’s worth listening to him. It’s got 66% whole-bunch, and shows Mark’s skill and confidence with this style. It’s savoury, decadent but fresh, and ready for the long haul.

Tasting notes

The 2022 Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru has a refined bouquet with bright red berry fruit, damp loam, white pepper and Earl Grey, the 66% new oak and 65% whole bunches both neatly integrated. The medium-bodied palate offers sappy red fruit, a dash of white pepper and sage, gaining depth towards the finish that lingers tenderly in the mouth. Very elegant and stylish.

100% whole bunch vinification. Two new barrels out of the three. Not too dark in crimson colour, with a thrilling bouquet, one where the whole bunches lift what is fruit into an ethereal floral touch. A couple of chocolate notes but the red berry fruit remains in complete control. An excellent example. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: December 2023.
