2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru, Nicole Lamarche

2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru, Nicole Lamarche

This is one of three grand cru sites in Nicole’s cellar. It is often the most understated, yet it offers up a remarkable persistence. Its fine, lacy texture makes for a graceful finish.

Tasting notes

The 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a lovely, pure bouquet showing plenty of cohesion, with dried rose petals infusing the red berry fruit, granite, and light white flower scents. The palate is medium-bodied, with finely chiseled tannins framing the light and slightly leafy red fruit. There’s a little austerity towards the finish at the moment, though it should fill out by the time it is in bottle.

An even pinkish crimson. One of the prettier bouquets here, though still needs teasing out. As with all her wines, what starts seeming to be very much on the light side, then gives a little more concentration on the palate. Still always going to be among the lighter styles of Burgundy, but could offer something in the ethereal direction with time. Attractive with some length, if little muscle. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted: November 2023.
