Tasting notes

A fine generous mid purple, with a much smoother and sensual bouquet, very stylish. Raspberry first then a swathe of strawberry fruit, powerful, generous and much smoother across the finish compared to Cazetiers, for example. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted: November 2023.

The 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru offers a mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, with rose petals and light violet scents emerging in time. Very well defined and transparent. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky smooth entry. Perfectly judged acidity, harmonious, caressing towards the sweet, slightly candied finish that lingers for 30 seconds afterward. Quintessential Charmes-Chambertin.

Domaine Armand Rousseau

Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s greatest producers. Their wines inspire awe in the fine wine world, with each vintage highly sought after. The domaine was founded at the turn of the last century by its namesake Armand Rousseau, courtesy of a small inheritance of vineyards in Gevrey Chambertin followed by additional vineyards added through marriage. Today, the domaine produces some of the world's most prized wines. They hold around 15 hectares of Pinot Noir vines in Gevrey-Chambertin and Morey-St-Denis, six of which are grands crus. Their substantial holdings of Chambertin have accumulated through purchases which span nearly 90 years. Today, Cyrielle Rousseau is continuing the work of the generations that came before her, upholding the domaine’s simple, yet overwhelmingly successful formula - sensible yields from predominantly old vines, in fantastic locations, with traditional winemaking techniques, and a precision and excellence that one tastes immediately.
