2022 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Hudelot-Noëllat

2022 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Hudelot-Noëllat

This is a supreme example of Clos de Vougeot. Charles has two excellent parcels, one of which is just next to the château in the sweet spot of the Clos. It shows density without heaviness, intensity without extraction.

Tasting notes

A vivid mid purple. The bouquet suggests some concentration but a youthful hiding of the detail. On the palate, this is clearly extremely well-constructed and the deep red fruit fills the mouth. Tannins are fine boned, and there is enough acidity. Let this age quietly for a decade and a fine Clos V will emerge. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted: November 2023.

The 2022 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a tightly wound, mineral-driven bouquet that needs time to gradually unfurl. Black rather than red fruit here. The medium-bodied palate has sappy red fruit, fine depth and good grip. A more sinewy Clos Vougeot that should stand it in good stead for long-term aging. Excellent.
