2022 Vosne-Romanee La Colombière, Georges Mugneret-Gibourg

2022 Vosne-Romanee La Colombière, Georges Mugneret-Gibourg

This vineyard lies right next to the family home and winery, extending out like a garden from the cellar doors. Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée’s father had rented it to a neighbour, but the well-maintained vineyard came back under the domaine’s control again from 2017. It is a full-bodied, deeply-fruited village wine with superb density and a cool, voluminous length.

Tasting notes

The 2022 Vosne-Romanée La Colombière comes from a plot of vines around 75 years old located directly behind the winery. There is a palpable difference between this and the Vosne Village, even though it was picked on the same day. This has a little more Pinoté and red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and a lovely silky texture. It’s a tad spicy with a vibrant, graphite-tinged and persistent finish. Excellent.

(90—92)/100

From vines planted in 1931, yielding 38 hl/ha at 13.4% alcohol. A rich crimson colour, splendid energy, less plump than the regular Vosne-Romanée, more refined and even more intense than the village blend. A rapturous pure red fruit, with the perfect thread of acidity throughout, how do the wines get to be so classic in such a year? Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: November 2023. 5 stars.
