Tasting notes

The 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a vivid, bright bouquet with perfumed, very floral red berry fruit and touches of white flowers filtering through with time in the glass. Quite classic in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, slightly tarry black and red fruit, hints of black pepper and graphite towards a complex, engaging finish. Superb.

Mid purple colour. An intriguing nose, almost something vegetal. A rougher edge to the fruit in the mouth, from the barrel. Rich sweet strawberry fruit in between. From another barrel, softer, a little more volume, and some gas as this barrel had not been sampled for a while. In short, the Echezeaux was in a slightly grumpy mood and may very well improve on this performance after further elevage. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted: November 2023.
