2022 Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru, Hudelot-Noëllat

2022 Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru, Hudelot-Noëllat

This is the pinnacle of the Hudelot-Noëllat cellar. It shows such an amplitude of fruit, such fine, textural layers, and a beautifully perfumed length.

Tasting notes

A fine mid ruby purple, then the nose says ‘hold on, this is special’. The quintessence of Vosne-Romanée finesse. An intense raspberry seedless intensity straight away on the attack, broadening slightly behind, medium acidity, submerged tannins and a fine very long finish. Drink from 2035-2045. Tasted: November 2023.

The 2022 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has a lovely bouquet that opens without any prompting in the glass: blackberry, raspberry, crushed violets and traces of the sea coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied and quite structured, strict on the entry with graphite-infused black fruit. Fine weight, a little flinty towards the finish (perhaps because of the low-pressure system on the day I was tasting.) It just needs a little more length on the aftertaste.
