2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras, Ghislaine Barthod

2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras, Ghislaine Barthod

This wine’s power and energy dominate when young, and the promise of its future are clear to see when tasting from barrel. This is an exceptional Cras from Ghislaine, with grand cru texture through and through. It’s the most structured wine in the cellar, and possibly the best, too.

Tasting notes

A fine mid purple. The bouquet does rather stand out as one of the most complex of the range, perfectly poised between pure red and slightly darker fruit. Then a sweeter strawberry note. There is an excellent volume across the palate and good acidity to bring up the rear, a fine classy Cras with a good future. Drink from 2032-2039. Tasted: November 2023.

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru bides its time unfolding in the glass, eventually revealing earthy red fruit, clove and hints of bergamot. This is very complex, but it is not a flashy Chambolle. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry. It has crisp acidity and is nicely structured with one of the most sapid finishes from the Domaine. This is one of their finest offerings in this vintage.
