High up the hill, on the limestone, this is one of Vosne’s most highly-regarded premiers crus, and always one of the highlights in Charles’s cellar. It is dark, spicy, and mineral, elegant and restrained, but with underlying power waiting in the wings for long ageing.

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru has a powerful, bold bouquet with blackberry and raspberry fruit mixed with rose petal and sous-bois scents. The palate is framed by firm tannins, quite saline at first, pulling back slightly from its assertive aromatics with a more streamlined, quite linear finish. This will require some cellar action for it to gain a little more weight on the back end.
