2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Georges Mugneret-Gibourg

2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Georges Mugneret-Gibourg

Mugneret-Gibourg has just one parcel within this sizable grand cru, planted in 1954, just next to the château. It is one of the finest examples of the vineyard, with depth, structure, and complexity, dark cherry fruit and a full-bodied length.

Tasting notes

The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru comes from their 0.30-hectare parcel close to the château. Matured in around 70% new oak, this offer vivacious red fruit mixed with loam/undergrowth, crushed stone and just a touch of pencil lead. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, taut and fresh with a bitter edge on the finish (you might think there was a bit of whole bunch here, but there is none). Very long, this might be my pick from Mugneret this year.
