2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru, Marchand-Tawse

2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru, Marchand-Tawse

This comes from two plots: Treux & Rouges du Bas. The tiny volume is raised in 100% new oak, and the wine has a luxurious, toasty feel. There is so much body and structure within, which carries the oak brilliantly. It has an intense and lifted nose with dramatic concentration. The palate is bursting with crushed raspberries; there is real power and umph here. Opulent and textured.

Tasting notes

The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru comes from the lieu-dit of "Rouge du Bas" and sees no whole bunch; it is raised in 100% new oak. I find the nose a little smudged compared to some of the Premier Crus that precede it. The palate is better, with succulent ripe red fruit laced with black pepper and clove. Good structure, but it needs more complexity to rank alongside its peers this vintage.
