2019 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, Marchand-Tawse

2019 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, Marchand-Tawse

Only produced in tiny quantities. This cru did extremely well in 2019, and has produced powerful wines that should last for decades. 50% whole bunch and 50% new oak. Great depth and mineral precision.

Tasting notes

The 2019 Clos de La Roche Grand Cru, which is 50% new oak and 50% whole bunch, has a powerful bouquet, much more floral and extravagant than the Clos Saint-Denis but less complex and terroir-driven. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, a svelte texture, layers of blackberry and blueberry fruit and fine mineralité finally coming through on the intense finish. Very good length, although I think the Clos Saint-Denis just has the upper hand.
