2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Domaine de Montille

De Montille holds just 0.29 hectares of this grand cru, and their vines are nestled right in the middle of this large clos. This wine is savoury and muscular, with structural tannins and brawny power. One of the many hugely successful Clos de Vougeots in 2019.

TASTING NOTES

The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru includes 50% whole cluster, mainly to fill the vat, and is now plowed by horse due to the spacing of the vines. The delineated bouquet features red berry fruit infused with pressed rose petal, quite minerally in style. That comes through on a palate that is very focused, offering a touch of white pepper and clove and bay toward the complex finish. A classy, quite cerebral Clos de Vougeot.

Domaine de Montille

Charismatic Etienne de Montille has stewarded the family domaine since taking responsibility in 1995. With an enviable selection of vineyards, careful winemaking with the use of whole bunch altered to suit the vintage, and sensitive élévage, it’s no surprise that this estate continues to rise towards the top. With a cellar overseen by the talented, affable American Brian Sieve and his own son joining the family business, Etienne is doing all the right things to ensure the wines thrive.
