2019 Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru Les Loups, Domaine des Lambrays

This comes from 0.7 hectares of premiers crus across the village: La Riotte, Les Sorbès, and Le Village (was there ever a more inaptly named premier cru?). The new style of vinification has drawn out the finest qualities of the fruit here: tight red berries, but with a fine silky texture to the tannins, and an elegant thread of acidity. Well played.

2019 Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru Les Loups, Domaine des Lambrays

The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Loups 1er Cru comes from La Riotte, Les Sorbets and Le Village. The 50% whole bunch lends this much more complexity and freshness compared to the Village Cru - white pepper and discrete loamy aromas unfolding from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity here with a fresh, quite saline finish. This is a big and tangible step up from the Village Cru.

Domaine des Lambrays

In 1979 Thierry Brouin took the helm of this famous domaine, best known for its namesake vineyard, the Clos de Lambrays which was granted grand cru status under his tenure in 1981. The estate itself was bought by LVMH in 2016, and Thierry has successfully overseen a smooth transition. Now, he’s decided to retire, working to hand over the keys to Boris Champy, who’s worked at Louis Latour and Dominus in the US and brings terrific experience to the table.
