2018 Rully Rouge Maizières, Domaine Dureuil-Janthial

It is rare to find a Burgundy domaine whose both colours are as interesting and skilfully made as the other. This Pinot has wonderful freshness on the nose: strawberries, fresh thyme, and red currants. The fruit is anchored to a noble reduction, giving it glint and edge: savoury energy in spade. The palate’s supple and abundant tannins are enrobed in the ample fruit promised on the nose, and given drive and persistence by the energetic acidity. It is superbly balanced, and a joy in its first flush of youth, but certainly with the stuffing to cellar well if you choose to.

2018 Rully Rouge Maizières, Domaine Dureuil-Janthial
Domaine Dureuil-Janthial

“If I see his name on a wine list, I don't give it a second thought and simply order his wine” - Jean-François Coche. This is high praise indeed, even if Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is widely regarded as the Côte Chalonnaise’s preeminent winemaker. The organic 20 hectare domaine in Rully is a rare find, too, in that it produces both reds and whites of equally outstanding quality. Vincent is as celebrated by the critics as by his peers, and the domaine is building a serious, and well-deserved following.
