2017 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle-sous-la-Chapelle, Jean-Marc Boillot

From a premier cru regarded as elegant even for Volnay, this was quite backward on the day it was tasted, but with nice tannins, fine juice and lovely density. Very good: savoury but finessed.

2017 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle-sous-la-Chapelle, Jean-Marc Boillot
Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot

Grandson of Etienne Sauzet, one of Burgundy's most famed vignerons, with experience as winemaker at Olivier Leflaive, Jean-Marc is a man of great practice with the talent of someone for whom winemaking runs in his blood. His wines wonderfully display terroir. With richness of flavour yet lightness of touch, they are always a delight to open: particularly in the company of charming Jean-Marc himself or his adult daughter, Lydie, who works alongside him.
