2013 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge 1er Cru Clos-St-Jean, Jean-Marc Pillot

2013 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge 1er Cru Clos-St-Jean, Jean-Marc Pillot

In his 1855 study of Burgundy, Dr Lavalle labelled this vineyard tête de cuvée for Pinot Noir, his highest designation. Virtually all other vineyards with this designation are Grands Crus in the modern appelation system: this is arguably Chassagne's finest red vineyard. Rich and concentrated, albeit not opulent, there is a focus and clarity of fruit with a frame of fine-grained tannins, this is pure and focussed.
