Grown on sandy soil, the fruit from the northerly Clos du Roi exhibits a deliciously rich and dark core of fruit, quite ripe but the Beaune terroir and whole bunch winemaking bring a firm, muscular tannic structure and a lifted aromatic edge with leafy notes and just a hint of tobacco. Great poise and precision, a wine to lay down to really benefit from its complexity.
