2012 Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards, Louis Boillot

The 66 year old vines give plenty of depth and a firm tannic structure to this 1er Cru Volnay, and the 2012 is no exception. The nose is dominated by quite an intense perfume of dark cherries with just a hint of cocoa; this follows through on the palate with rich, dark Pinot fruit, fine-grain yet grippy tannins. This is a serious, tannic yet rich and delicious wine, and a good example of Louis’ ability to really get the most out of this Volnay terroir.

Domaine Louis Boillot

Louis Boillot previously worked at family domaine Lucien Boillot in Gevrey, though the family was initially based in Volnay, hence they also have wines from this commune. Louis himself relocated to Chambolle in 2003 where his wife, Ghislaine Barthod, is based, and they share the same vineyard team. From several notable appellations, Louis crafts wines that are united in their commitment to terroir. He also has an impressive concern further south in Moulin-à-Vent, making Pinot-like Beaujolais.
