2012 Nuits-St-Georges 'Chaliots', Domaine Michel Gros

From a lieu-dit, south of the village, with flint stone soil, this is a more serious prospect with darker spicy fruit. The fine tannins have a real hold and when balanced with the mouth-watering core this wine has a lasting elegance.

2012 Nuits-St-Georges 'Chaliots', Domaine Michel Gros
Domaine Michel Gros

Best known for his monopole Clos des Réas, a vineyard that produces a wine of supreme elegance, this remarkable plot has been in the family since 1860. Michel Gros has been at the head of the family domaine that now bears his name since 1975. A rather more recent addition was his tiny parcel of Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, bought by Michel’s father for his son’s twelfth birthday, although he’s adamant he would have preferred a bike!
