2011 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, Maison Roche de Bellene

Undoubtedly the star of all the village wines from Nicolas' line up this year, the Nuits-St-Georges (from old vines situated next to Vosne-Romanée) was fermented and aged in 600 litre old oak barrels, providing the advantages of oak ageing whilst minimising the wood's influence on the wine. The result is simply excellent, with dark, deep and spicy fruit - ripe cherries and winter spice with a touch of cherry liqueur. Full-bodied, with a firm tannic structure and some of neighbouring Vosne's silky texture. This is once again fantastic value.

2011 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, Maison Roche de Bellene
Nicolas Potel

In 2005, Nicolas built up his own Estate, Domaine de Bellene, in the Côte de Beaune. Then in 2008 launched his new negociant business called "Maison Roche de Bellene" which also includes a range of very rare older vintages, under the name "Collection Bellenum". These wines, dating back to 1959 are the result of a very strict selection of old vintages exceptionally released from the wine cellars of some of the most famous producers of Burgundy.
