2011 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, Maison Roche de Bellene

2011 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, Maison Roche de Bellene

Undoubtedly the star of all the village wines from Nicolas' line up this year, the Nuits-St-Georges (from old vines situated next to Vosne-Romanée) was fermented and aged in 600 litre old oak barrels, providing the advantages of oak ageing whilst minimising the wood's influence on the wine. The result is simply excellent, with dark, deep and spicy fruit - ripe cherries and winter spice with a touch of cherry liqueur. Full-bodied, with a firm tannic structure and some of neighbouring Vosne's silky texture. This is once again fantastic value.
