2011 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers, Méo-Camuzet

Made from fruit from old vines planted originally by Burgundy legend, Henri Jayer, this is a delicious Nuits-St-Georges. A little closed on the nose, with notes of crunchy dark berry fruit, but opening out on the palate with pure, concentrated black cherry and damson fruit. Silken tannins and a vibrant, fresh acidity, combined with sweet oak notes, give this a layered and appealing character.

The link with Henri Jayer continues to define, if not overshadow, this estate, which makes outstanding wines completely in its own right. Jean-Nicolas Méo took control in 1989, and the wines have rightfully developed a reputation for being polished, opulent and voluptuous, with wonderful intensity to the fruit. With fourteen hectares in some of the most prestigious parts of the Côte de Nuits, Méo-Camuzet also has a thriving negotiant business.
