2011 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Île des Vergelesses, Chandon de Briailles

Regarded as Pernand’s best 1er Cru, situated mid-slope and out of the shadow of the nearby hillside of Corton. Aromatically complex with expressive black forest fruit, there is a great deal on offer here, borne out by the striking purity of fruit supported by an impressive level of tannic grip and an austere mineral note.

2011 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Île des Vergelesses, Chandon de Briailles
Domaine Chandon de Briailles

This beautiful house constructed between 1690 and 1705 has been home to the de Nicolay family since 1834. Current incumbent Claude, frequently flanked by her lovely dogs (one adorably called Darling!), creates elegant wines from appellations sometimes known for their more bucolic styles. Farmed biodynamically since 2005, this is a set of wines that punch well above their weight.
