2010 Chambolle-Musigny, Michel Gros

Drawn from four separate parcels of vines throughout the commune, including one that is right next to the Grand Cru vineyard of Musigny, which lends some depth and power to this village level wine. Violet-scented hedgerow fruit is to the fore, with a lovely sense of purity and finely-tuned structure. The fruit shows great concentration, but the overall impression is of a reined-in, linear and elegant wine. Very good indeed.

2010 Chambolle-Musigny, Michel Gros
Domaine Michel Gros

Best known for his monopole Clos des Réas, a vineyard that produces a wine of supreme elegance, this remarkable plot has been in the family since 1860. Michel Gros has been at the head of the family domaine that now bears his name since 1975. A rather more recent addition was his tiny parcel of Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, bought by Michel’s father for his son’s twelfth birthday, although he’s adamant he would have preferred a bike!
