2010 Clos de Vougeot, Domaine Michel Gros

Darkly fragrant on the nose, with a concentrated deep- almost cassis - core of fruit on the palate. Very intense and rich, but well-balanced by a vein of almost-mineral freshness and finely-tuned tannins. Quite closed and ungiving at this stage of its evolution, but there is clearly both great intensity and a deftly-handled structure, making this a wine of great potential.

2010 Clos de Vougeot, Domaine Michel Gros
Domaine Michel Gros

Best known for his monopole Clos des Réas, a vineyard that produces a wine of supreme elegance, this remarkable plot has been in the family since 1860. Michel Gros has been at the head of the family domaine that now bears his name since 1975. A rather more recent addition was his tiny parcel of Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, bought by Michel’s father for his son’s twelfth birthday, although he’s adamant he would have preferred a bike!
