2008 La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole, Domaine Lamarche

This really is a special wine from Domaine Lamarche's superbly situated Grand Cru monopole, which is (now) challenging for wine of the vintage on a regular basis. Heady, exotic and spicy on the nose, with almost Asian spice, liquorice and blueberry. The palate has a thick texture, without being heavy or revealing any of the 80% new oak in which it has been matured. Long, refreshing finish, with a streak of iron. Great wine.

2008 La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole, Domaine Lamarche
Domaine François Lamarche

Whilst most of us receive crockery, the second Henri Lamarche was given La Grande Rue vineyard for his wedding present. It was only elevated to Grand Cru status in 1992, due to Henri’s fear of having to pay extra tax had he applied for the designation in 1936. This is an estate with an enviable set of vineyards, and under the control of cousins Nicole, the winemaker, and Nathalie, who looks after the commercial side, Lamarche are back where they belong, near the top of the Vosne Romanée tree.
