2005 Volnay, Michel Lafarge

Blended from a number of parcels at both ends of the commune and form
vines with an average age of 40 years. The nose is relatively closed with
chocolatey, older oak notes. It opens up in the glass to reveal slightly darker
fruit characters. There is more red fruit evident on the palate and this is mouthfilling
in an extremely delicate way. Tannins are evident but ripe and fine, this
is a wine of great length and beautiful balance.

2005 Volnay, Michel Lafarge
Domaine Michel Lafarge

Stepping into the Lafarge cellar in central Volnay is an experience, and how one might imagine a Burgundy cellar should be. In this veritable trove, blanketed in life-giving mould, are born some of Burgundy’s greatest wonders. The wines crafted by Frédéric, his daughter and his father Michel, now in his 80s, boast an unbeatable ability to age, even for Pinot Noir. It’s no wonder that he, alongside D’Angerville and de Montille, helped put Volnay on the map.
