It was inevitable that my chosen red wine be from the incomparable 2005 vintage in Burgundy. An astonishing week in early November 2006 gave me the opportunity to taste across this stellar vintage and it was extraordinary in both its style and uniformity. Old vines from a Grand Cru vineyard, a talented winemaker in Thierry Brouhin, and an awesome vintage make this a profound wine. The colour is very deep and the nose somewhat subdued and almost brooding. The palate is rich, broad and very concentrated and yet the wine exhibits finesse and elegance. This is a tour de force of a Grand Cru. The tannins are so beautifully integrated they seem almost woven into the structure of the wine and the finish is long and intense. Outstanding.
