2002 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Jean Grivot

Wines such as this show why the Cistercian monks of the Middle Ages held the Clos in such high esteem. A wine of real intensity that exudes authority with its powerful structure, volume of flavour and rounded tannic finish. A great vougeot from Grivot.

2002 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Jean Grivot
Domaine Jean Grivot

Patriarch Jean Grivot passed on the domaine to his son, Etienne, in 1987, who is now passing the torch on to his daughter Mathilde. With densely planted old vines, tended organically, yields are low and complexity high. As the grapes pass through Etienne and Mathilde’s cellar, her lightness of touch builds on the trend of this superb address towards purity and refinement, without losing any of the tell-tale structure. At this benchmark Burgundy domaine, Grivot’s wines remain impressive.
