2024 Château Suduiraut, Sauternes

2024 Château Suduiraut, Sauternes

A bright and vibrant Suduiraut this year made with 100% Semillon and coming in at 130g/l of residual sugar. This is so expressive from the moment it hits the glass with aromas of marmalade, saffron, orange peel, and honeysuckle. There is tension and a burst of freshness on the palate with honeyed apricot and hints of exotic fruit and grilled pineapple that emerge with air. Perfectly balanced, this is a wonderfully fine Sauternes that will evolve with elegance and grace.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Suduiraut enjoyed an early development of botrytis in mid-September, so there is no passerillage. The second and third tries in mid-October formed the heart of the wine. It is very pure on the nose, less intense than the previous two vintages, offering wild honey, peach skin and light nectarine scents. The palate is well balanced with a fine thread of acidity. It is not as dense or unctuous as recent vintages, but there is wonderful tension with a pure and quite sensual finish. Excellent. 130g/l residual sugar.

The 2024 Suduiraut offers up a beguiling mix of passion fruit, mango, pineapple and tangerine oil. Even with 130 grams of residual sugar, the 2024 is not an especially opulent Sauternes. I especially admire its freshness. What a beautiful and expressive wine.

This really is charming, full of marmalade and orange zest, saffron and lime, bitter finish in the best way, gives focus and rises up through the palate. 4.1 TA. 3.83 pH. 130 g/l. 50% new oak. Four passes through the vineyard through to 3rd week of October, with 2nd and 3rd being the heart. Pierre Montegut technical director across both Suduiraut and Pichon Baron. 11.3hl/h yield. Lovely, softly spoken, not the intensity of 2022, but just thoroughly appealing. Eric Boissenot consultant, as at Pichon and at Noval in Portugal.
